Berlin. Due to media reports about sales of ALBA metal companies to the international steel group ArcelorMittal, Interseroh and ALBA clarify:
The sales exclusively comprise companies of ALBA International Recycling (AIR), which belongs to the Interseroh group of companies of Dr. Axel Schweitzer. No companies of ALBA SE, which is majority-owned by Dr. Eric Schweitzer, were sold. In the course of the split-up of the ALBA Group, three metal companies had remained with Interseroh, the majority of the metal business bundled in ALBA SE belongs to Dr. Eric Schweitzer.
ALBA International Recycling, which belongs to Dr Axel Schweitzer's Interseroh group of companies, has concluded agreements with ArcelorMittal on the sale of ALBA Electronics Recycling, ALBA Metall Süd Rhein-Main and ALBA Metall Süd Franken.
No ALBA SE companies were sold. The majority of the shares in ALBA SE are held by ALBA Europe Holding, which belongs to Dr. Eric Schweitzer's group of companies.
"ALBA International Recycling wants to concentrate on the area of plastics recycling in Europe and expand this further," explains Dr. Axel Schweitzer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and owner of Interseroh. "To this end, we had already acquired an additional plastics recycling company, CPE, last year in order to expand the production of both post consumer and post industrial recycled plastics." In addition, Interseroh, the parent company of ALBA International Recycling, is planning to build another dedicated state of the art high tech sorting plant in Walldürn to provide feedstock for chemical recycling.
"ALBA SE remains together as a successful group of companies active in steel and metals recycling," said Dr. Eric Schweitzer, CEO and Owner of ALBA. ALBA SE is one of the leading reprocessing companies in Europe. The listed public limited company, majority-owned by Dr. Eric Schweitzer, is currently looking for a strategic investor who would like to take a majority stake in ALBA SE and use the opportunities for organic growth and acquisitions with it. "Metal recycling will undergo a significant structural change in the coming years, as recycling companies and the steel industry alike face the common challenge of producing climate-neutral steel," says Dr. Eric Schweitzer. He registered a growing interest on the part of the steel industry to secure direct access to scrap in view of the climate protection requirements and not to be dependent only on external suppliers. ALBA SE had already publicly announced its search for an investor a few weeks ago.
ArcelorMittal, one of the world's leading steel producers, is taking over ALBA Electronics Recycling, ALBA Metall Süd Rhein-Main and ALBA Metall Süd Franken. At the same time, ArcelorMittal and Interseroh have concluded a comprehensive cooperation agreement: Interseroh will support ArcelorMittal with its leading know-how in the transition to the circular economy. For the employees of the three steel and metal companies, nothing will change as a result of the change of ownership. "AIR will do its utmost to support the integration of the new acquisitions at ArcelorMittal," says Stephan Schwarz, CEO of AIR. "It is in both our interests that the transition of the companies and the path to a functioning circular economy succeed well."
